Yesterday we were part of an amazing collective of chefs, producers, and other inspiring people representing The Donegal Food Coast https://donegalfoodcoast.ie/ and Donegal Town, both of whom have been nominated for Ireland’s Foodie Destination. This competition is run every year by the Restaurants Association of Ireland. It celebrates Ireland’s unique and wonderful food offerings and encourages local food tourism initiatives across the country.
Donegal has gained a lot of momentum on the food scene in recent years and to win this award would be a huge vote of confidence for all those involved.
Judges Deirdre McGlone and Anthony O’ Toole were taken on a tour of Donegal Town in the first half of the day where they were given a taster of all the fantastic restaurants and producers in the town. They then made their way to Oakfield Park in Raphoe where The Donegal Food Coast team had invited food businesses & producers from all over the county to showcase their offerings. Judges were treated to a display for the senses all around the estate by these innovative producers.
Eve – Anne Mc Carron, Business Advisor with the Local Enterprise Office made an emotional plea at the end of yesterday’s events for people to vote for The Donegal Food Coast as Ireland Foodie Destination 2019. Eve – Anne remarked that it was our “time to shine” in Donegal and we couldn’t agree more. (Check out the very cool Donegal Producers map – designed by https://lisagildea.com/ )
