Daneger and Stacey – Taste the Island with Donegal Food Tours

Popular Youtubers Dane and Stacey joined us recently for our Taste the North Donegal Food Tour in conjunction with Failte Ireland and Taste the Island. Taste the Island is an amazing new initiative created by Failte Ireland to spread visitor numbers to the regions and expand the season beyond the summer peak. http://www.failteireland.ie/taste-the-island.aspx

Food and drink account 35 percent of overseas tourism revenue worth €2 billion a year according to Failte Ireland and so it is inherently important that we provide our visitors with a good lasting impression of the high quality produce we have in our country.

When Failte Ireland asked us to showcase Donegal food to some of the promoters of Taste the Island of course we were only too delighted!

CastleGrove Country House was an obvious choice to base our guests for their tour with its old world charm, award winning hospitality and its location. CastleGrove is situated just outside Donegal’s largest town, Letterkenny ( where our Taste the North Donegal Food Tour begins ) and overlooks the banks of the beautiful Lough Swilly. https://www.castlegrove.com/

We met the super friendly New Zealand duo, Dane and Stacey at 11.30am and hit the road with Donegal Tour Guide – Henry Doohan, travelling out West toward Gortahork. Meandering country roads and rolling hills we  arrived at OURganic Gardens just after midday where Owner – Joanne Butler gave us a tour of the gardens and explained a little about her produce and passion for teaching horticulture. We dipped a variety of vegetables into hummus and pesto, all made with produce from the garden and even got to try some homemade cider. https://www.donegaltourguide.ie/                                                                              https://www.ourganicgardens.ie/

It wasn’t long before we had to leave for our next stop on this Taste the North food tour. After saying our goodbyes, we travelled through the seaside village of Falcarragh toward The Shack Coffee Shop at Marble Hill Beach. Here, we met – Owner, Min, for a quick chat about her business and enjoyed some flat whites while enjoying the views on this particularly still and sunny Nov Sunday. http://www.shackcoffee.shop/our-story-2/

Third stop on this Taste the North tour, was the fabulous Fisk Seafood Bar in Downings. Owner Tony Davidson joined us here to explain some of his delicious dishes which included Squid, Cod Roe on Scarpello Sourdough Bread and local prawns, all washed down with a tantalizing Pecorino wine. https://fiskseafoodbar.com/

Our final stop on this tour was the legendary Goose & Gander Pizzeria ( now located in Downing’s ). Chef Chris Kerr demonstrated his pizza making skills with his wood fired oven while Owner Chris Healy done a little beer tasting with local favourite – Kinnegar.

We couldn’t think of a better way to finish this tour, than with delicious pizza, craft beer all in front of a blazing fire at the wonderfully cosy Goose & Gander Pizzeria. https://www.facebook.com/LoguesbarGandG/
