A great week for Donegal Food and Tourism

The Harveys Point Hotel Team

We love to see all that’s truly great about Donegal being celebrated in the Irish media and the past seven days have definitely  given us lots to raise a glass to! Today The Sunday Times published ‘Ireland’s 100 Best Restaurants’, a prestigious list compiled by renowned food and travel writers John and Sally Mc Kenna which included three amazing Donegal Restaurants – Fisk at The Harbour Bar, Downings, The Foyle Hotel, Main Street, Moville and Mc Grorys Hotel, Culdaff, Inishowen. It also included praise for The Counter Deli, Canal Road, Letterkenny, including the popular café in it’s round up of ‘Five of the Best Sausage Rolls’ in Ireland. We can’t argue there!

In this weekend’s Irish Independent, The Shack, Marble Hill, Dunfanaghy and Caffe Banba, Malin Head both made well deserved appearances in ‘50 of the best Coffee shops in Ireland’. An increasingly tough category as every week sees the launch of a new haven for coffee lovers to find their favourite beans.

Donegal is steadily becoming a real foodie destination. So many restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops are now becoming increasingly more focused on serving fresh, local, quality produce and providing that friendly face and hospitable service that we have become known for. One Donegal destination that consistently excels with hospitable service is the multi award-winning Harveys Point Hotel, Lough Eske which was once again awarded ‘Top Hotel in Ireland’ in TripAdvisors Travellers’ Choice Awards 2019. Congratulations to Deirdre, Marc and all their hard working team!

It is an exciting time to be a part of tourism and the food scene in Donegal. Every week we are delighted to witness so much passion and camaraderie between chefs, producers and those at the forefront of promoting Donegal. This week provided another great example of teamwork with members of the Donegal tourism industry coming together to promote our county at ‘The Holiday World Show’ in the RDS, Dublin and at ‘Boot’ trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany.

2019 is gearing up to be the most exciting year yet for the Donegal food scene so don’t miss out on your chance to sample some of our county’s culinary highlights on board our guided food tours. Taste the incredible produce, see the hard working chefs and producers at work while you explore some of Donegal’s breathtaking scenery all in one fun-filled trip.
